The Old Testament prophets foretold that God's Spirit would rest on the Messiah to support His mission. This prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus, conceived by the Spirit, was born of the Virgin Mary. The Holy Spirit descended on Jesus at His baptism by John, and His entire mission was in communion with the Spirit. Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to the Apostles and the Church before He died, and after His resurrection, the Father raised Him in the power of the Spirit.
