Haiti Ministry
Under the guidance and leadership of Bishop Walter Sullivan, the Diocese of Richmond started the fraternal relationship with parishes in Haiti in 1984 through an outreach ministry.
“At the heart of the Haiti ministry is its twinning program, in which a parish or other organization in Haiti is paired with a sister parish in Richmond.”
“The twinning program is based on relationship and solidarity. It is understood that each partner has gifts to share with the other and that we stand with each other as we journey forward in faith” (richmonddioces.org/office/Haiti).
Currently, over 50 parishes in the Richmond Diocese have a twinning relationship with a Haitian parish.
The Diocese of Richmond has a Haiti Commission that acts as a resource by providing oversight, advice, and support regarding issues our Haitian brothers and sisters meet every day: educational needs, health care, and sustainable development.

Haiti Ministry at St. Thomas More:
The Haiti Ministry at St. Thomas More Catholic Church is partnered with La Nativité de la Vièrge Marie in Savanette, Haiti. The Haiti Committee is committed to a true partnership focused on building and nurturing relationships over time through sharing gifts, prayer, ongoing dialogue, reflection, and collaboration on joint projects. On our walk, we hosted several Haitian priests as they visited our parish, and in turn, they hosted several STM parishioners in Savanette. This enabled us to grow and nurture a friendship of mutual love and respect. |
